About us
More than just a Kite Camp
Kitesurfing Lanka was started 13 years ago by fellow kiters Dilsiri Welikala, Sri Lanka’s first local Kite Instructor and Frenchman Léo Moret. The story of how they met and started the first kite camp in Kalpitiya is epic and you can check it out here.
We are located on the North West Coast of Sri Lanka in Kalpitiya, on the peninsula of Puttalam. Kitesurfinglanka is 8 acres of paradise in Kalpitiya, and a true reflection of hard work and passion for kitesurfing, nature, and the neighbouring community.
At KSL we have an epic lagoon, beachfront access, magical gardens lovingly maintained by the owners themselves, and activities for everybody to enjoy. We guarantee you, there’s something for everyone here.
From all of us here at Kitesurfinglanka we are stoked to welcome you to our beach resort and kite school. Just note, we are not your average kind of hotel.
Kitesurfing in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is a haven for kitesurfing and many water sports.The small islets, reefs, and sandbanks along the north of the peninsula present the perfect opportunity for all types of kitesurfing disciplines, downwinders and other kite trips. We organise several kite trips for you to choose from, ranging from beginner level to advanced, and you can kite at a different location each day of the week!
Most of our kite trips run year-round, with a select few that are season dependent.
In addition, we also offer kitesurfing lessons, Kite Foil and Wing Foil lessons – from beginner courses to advanced coaching and kite trips. At KSL we have a kite shop and kite repair in the camp and we also offer kite rentals of the best equipment on the market today.
Seasons
Two distinct Kite Seasons
In Kalpitiya there are two distinct kite seasons. The summer season runs from mid-May to mid-October and the winter season from mid-December to mid-March.
Summer offers wind all day long with averages of 18-20 knots, and some days goes up to 30 knots. In winter the wind picks up in the afternoon and ranges between 15 to 25 knots. The mornings are perfect for yoga, diving, dolphin & whale watching trips. Both summer and winter are warm, dry, and windy, but the wind direction changes making every spot a new adventure! You can kite without a wetsuit year round, but some prefer to wear a shortie during the winter season.

Perfect place for a solo kite traveler

A great place to learn kite
This is a safe and lovely place to learn. Pick up from the airport was €85 each way, but it is a 3 hour drive (in a comfortable van with aircon so I slept most of it!). Arrived in time to sort room and do an afternoon lesson.
